Harvest has wrapped up for the 2022 Melfort Mustangs Farming Project at our two fields just outside of Melfort.
However, due to factors out of our control, we were unable to harvest all 210-plus acres of land. A fire in one field on Tuesday, September 6 resulted in a large chunk of land being lost for the year. It’s a tough blow to the Mustangs as an organization. However, nobody was hurt and we are grateful that nothing else was lost as a result of the blaze. We want to thank the Gronlid Fire Department for their quick response and execution to put out the blaze, as well as the many neighbors and farmers who dropped everything at a very busy time to come and help protect buildings, equipment and crop. Who knows how bad things may have turned out if not for the help of those individuals. Again on behalf of the Melfort Mustangs Organization, THANK YOU.
While there was a large portion of our crop that was lost, we were still able to harvest our other field and part of the field where the blaze took place. We wouldn’t have been able to do that without the tireless efforts of our sponsors and volunteers, who help the “Feed the Mustangs” Farming Project that has been a major fundraiser for our club. That help includes, and is not limited to, Hillbilly Farms, Strinholm Farms, AG World Equipment, Farm World, Prairie North Co-Op, Philip Mansiere Enterprises, Lake Country Co-Op, Ag Authority, Redhead Equipment, Fairy Glen Coop, Giddy Up Transport, Starco Ag Transport, A & K Enns Trucking, Prime Trucking, R&K Fletcher Trucking, Nutrien, Adama, Bayer Cropscience, Syngenta, Corteva, Fly’n Dutchman Ag LTD, Crop Pro Consulting and Richardson Pioneer.
“The end result is not what we anticipated but for the Feed the Mustangs project but we are grateful that everyone is all right and thankful to all individuals the individuals who helped prevent what could have been a far worse situation,” said Mustangs President Jordan Lee. “The Melfort Mustangs Organization wishes to thank everyone who jumped in at a very busy time. To our sponsors thanks again for another successful year, we could not do this without you and we are looking forward to next year.”
Once again, we thank all of our sponsors for their generosity and assistance with this year’s project and we can’t wait for next year.
