Thornton Commits to University of Alberta

The Melfort Mustangs are proud to announce that Ty Thornton has committed to the University of Alberta, where he will join the Golden Bears hockey program for the 2025-26 season.

Thornton spent three seasons in a Mustangs uniform, making a lasting impact both on and off the ice. Known for his leadership, consistency, and work ethic, Ty was named team captain for his 20-year-old season and led by example both on and off the ice.

During the 2024-25 regular season, Thornton played 49 games, posting 7 goals and 36 assists for 43 points. Over his 3-year Mustangs career, he appeared in 131 regular season games, recording 9 goals, 58 assists, and a total of 67 points. He also added valuable production in the playoffs and was a key contributor during the Mustangs’ run to the Centennial Cup.

The entire Mustangs organization would like to thank Ty for his contributions over the past three seasons and wish him continued success as he takes the next step in his academic and athletic journey. Congratulations, Ty—and thank you for everything. Once a Mustang, always a Mustang.
