Catz n’ Jammers 3 Stars of the Month: October

It was a busy month of October for the Melfort Mustangs. The team played 11 games and continue to be right in the thick of things in the SJHL standings. The Mustangs gathered a 5-4-2-0 record in October which include a shootout win over the previously undefeated Battlefords North Stars. There were some stellar performances in October, and here are your Catz n’ Jammers 3 Stars of the Month.

1st Star: Zac Somers (11gp, 5G, 4A, 9Pts)

After just one goal in the month of September, Melfort product Zac Somers scored five times in October, the most on the Mustangs in the month. He would also add four assists for a total of nine points in 11 games during October. His hot month also included two multi goal games, and a stretch of eight points over three games. Somers currently sits second on the Mustangs with 13 points overall.

2nd Star: Riley Ashe (11gp, 3G, 7A, 10Pts)

Riley Ashe seems to be adjusting to the SJHL just fine. The 16-year-old really turned up the dial in October. It all started with a two goal, one assist night on Oct. 1 against Notre Dame. The Warman product ultimately tallied three goals and seven assists in October, tying for the team lead in assists and leading the team in points over that stretch. Ashe had two three point nights in October and currently is tied for third in SJHL rookie scoring.

3rd Star: Hayden Tuba (10gp, 2G, 7A, 9Pts)

The lone 20-year-old on this month’s Three Stars, Hayden Tuba led the way on the Mustang blue-line this month. The South Delta, B.C. product had a four-point night on Oct. 1, and would go on to tally two goals and seven assists overall in October. He was the leading scorer among defencemen on the Mustangs in October and currently sits fifth among SJHL defencemen in points-per-game (0.85).

The Mustangs are back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 2 when they host the Flin Flon Bombers.
