Mustangs even series with Broncos!

The Melfort Mustangs and Humboldt Broncos split back to back playoff games this weekend at the Northern Lights Palace in Melfort. Following a 7-2 Humboldt win on Friday the Mustangs responded with a big 6-3 win on Saturday night, evening the Bourgault Cup at 1-1. The scene will now shift to Humboldt for Games 3 and 4 on Tuesday and Wednesday night.

For the Mustangs the offence this weekend couldn’t have been more spread out, which is maybe a good thing. Kayle Tosh leads the team in playoff scoring with 3 assists. But 5 other Mustangs have 2 points each, and another 7 Mustangs added a single point. In total 13 different Mustangs got on the score sheet in just 2 games. Tristen Elder(2), Rock Ruschkowski(2), Carson Albrecht, Justin Ball, Drew Warketine and Zach Anderson had the Mustangs 8 goals.

Both Evan Plotnik and Hunter Arps saw the Mustang cage in game 1. A game they’d both like to forget. Evan Plotnik did that with a spectacular Game 2 performance responding with 33 saves on 36 shots in the win.

Game 3 goes in Humboldt on Tuesday night. They follow it with Game 4 back in Humboldt on Wednesday. The two teams will also meet back at the Northern Lights Palace in Melfort on Saturday night for Game 5. If necessary Game 6 and 7 will be played Mar 26th and 28th.

Thanks to Bourgault Industries for sponsoring the series, the Melfort Mustangs and Humboldt Broncos are tied 1-1 in the Bougault Cup. See you Tuesday in Humboldt!
