The Melfort Mustangs kicked off a two game road trip last night with a tough fought OT loss to the Battleford North Stars. The Melfort boys dropped a 4-3 OT decision in a game that could have went either way.

The Northstars jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 16:09 of the first period on a goal from Braydon Buziak. The Mustangs would answer quickly with a goal from Justin Ball tying the game at 1-1. He was sprung on a break down the left side of the ice on a pass from Carson Albrecht and would make no mistake. Battleford would regain a 2-1 lead at 18:11 of the first on a goal from Jacob Bayne.

He got a great pass from Tanner Zenter as he buried it in the back of the net.It turned out to be a big momentum goal for the Mustangs as they would come back in the final frame.

Just :58 seconds into that third period Tyson Meyers got is first of the season on a play from the corner. As the Mustangs would pull even 3-3. The remainder of the period would solve nothing and the game would head to OT for the first time all season.

Both teams with great chances to start OT. Melfort would even kill off the remainder of a Kayle Tosh minor penalty. But it wasn’t enough as Matthias Urbanksi gave the North Stars the victory 4-3, at 4:41 of OT.

On the season the Mustangs slip to 1-1-1-0. Next game goes tonight in Kindersley as they meet the Klippers for the first time. Game time is 7:30pm and Mat Barrett will have the call on CK750.
