The Melfort Mustangs will hit the road today to begin a 2 game, 2 night road trip. The Mustangs meet the North Stars in Battleford tonight before heading south to Kindersley to meet the Klippers tomorrow.
The Mustangs kicked off the season on Saturday night with a big 8-4 win over the Notre Dame Hounds. Zach Anderson led the way with 4 goals for Melfort. Not to be out done, Justin Ball also had a hat trick in the game scoring 3 times. Zack Smith scored his first of the season for the other Mustangs goal. Hunter Arps played well getting the win between the pipes. Following the opening night win the Mustangs left all goal scoring back in Melfort as they dropped the rematch 4-0 to Notre Dame in Wilcox on Sunday. Both Mustang goalies, Hunter Arps and Jack Walters saw time in net. Following the weekend split Melfort moves into their third game tonight 1-1 on the season.
The Battlefords North Stars opened the season on the weekend with back to back losses to the Kindersley Klippers. Both close games as they lost 3-1 on Friday and 3-2 on Saturday. Ryan Gil(2) and MacGregor Sinclair had goals for the North Stars. Joel Gryzbowski played both games in net and begins the season 0-2.
