Mustangs head to Yorkton for the first time this year

The Melfort Mustangs are on the road today for a quick trip to Yorkton to meet the Terriers. Tonight will be the second meeting of the season between the teams with Melfort winning the first at the SJHL Showcase 4-0 on Sept 27th.

Coming into tonight the Melfort Mustangs are 5-0-1-0 in their last 6 games and are one of the hottest teams in the SJHL. With 11 out of a possible 12 points the Mustangs have currently opened a 5 point gap in the Sher-Wood Division over the Nipawin Hawks.

For Yorkton, they’ve struggled recently. Sitting in last place in the SJHL with just a 3-17-2-0 record they let go former GM and Head Coach Casey O’Brien  effective October 31, 2017. Assistant Coach Mat Hehr took over on an interm basis following the termination of Casey’s contract, and has now taken over  the position of Head Coach and General Manager of the Yorkton Terriers full time on November 15th.

It’s been a roller coaster ride of a season for both clubs seeing highs and lows throughout the year. Tonight should be no different, as the Terriers gave the number 6th ranked team in Canada the Battlefords Northstars all they could handle on Sunday. The Mustangs will continue to look to ride the high of their current win streak a little longer.
