Mustangs look for road success in Yorkton

The Melfort Mustangs continue a 4 game road trip tonight when they head to Yorkton to meet the Terriers. The Melfort boys opened a 4 game road trip with an OT loss to the Humboldt Broncos on Saturday night. They wrap up the 4 game stretch with visits to Estevan and Weyburn this weekend. Tonight’s game starts at 7:30pm and can be seen on HockeyTV. It can also be caught live on CK750 with Mat Barrett.

The Mustangs come into tonight’s contest having struggled a bit recently. Just 4-5-1-0 in their last 10 games, but with 3 of 4 points against the Humboldt Broncos things are starting to turn in the right direction. For the Yorkton Terriers they’ve dropped 2 straight and are 3-7-0-0 in their last 10 games. Tonight’s game is a big one and could really turn momentum for someone as we head into the final 16 games of the regular season.

Players to watch tonight include the leading scorers on both teams as well as some players who have been playing great hockey recently. Colin Schmidt had a 6 point weekend for the Mustangs after being left off the Showcase rosters. Schmidt scored 4 goals this weekend including a third period hat trick on Saturday to complete the comeback and push the game into OT. Schmidt will look to continue his hot play tonight as he’s on a 4 game goal streak. Playing alongside Kenzie Arnold and newly acquired George King has been a great line combo for the Mustangs. Since King’s arrival 4 games ago, the trio have put up 8 goals and 7 assist for 15 points. They’ve really been able to add some scoring depth behind the Mustangs top line that leads the SJHL. On the back end the D pairing of Alex Rondeau and Nolan Kadachuk have taken their game to another level. In the same 4 game stretch, the two D-men have scored 4 goals(2 each) and a single assist for 5 points. Scoring a goal a game has been great for the pair as they will look to continue that on the road.

The Yorkton Terriers have a few high flying goal scorers as well. Jared Legien leads the team in scoring with 63 points on the season. Since putting up 4 points in a win against Weyburn, Legien has 8 points over her last 3 games. Chantz Petruic has been right there with him as he has 7 in the same stretch. From the back end Brendan Mark leads the team in scoring. He has 2 goals and 3 assists in his last 3 games.

Tonight’s game begins at 7:30pm and can be heard on CK750 as well as watched on HockeyTV. Following tonight’s game the Mustangs are back on the road this weekend with games in Estevan on Friday and Weyburn on Saturday.
