Mustangs to meet Broncos in Quarter Final Best of 7

The Melfort Mustangs will meet the Humboldt Broncos in the First Round, Quarter Final Series when the SJHL Playoffs open in March.

Right now both teams have a few games left in their regular seasons but with Melfort sitting 4th and Humboldt 5th, the two clubs are guaranteed to finish in their current spots. Setting up one of the best first round SJHL Series we have seen in recent memory.

After splitting the regular season meetings with 3 wins a piece it’s the Broncos who have the upper hand with recent wins. Thanks to a last second goal(literally) and a dominating home ice performance the Broncos have won the last 2 meetings. Since the trade deadline they have been one of the best teams in the SJHL and will make for a tough test for Melfort come the first round.

The Mustangs have been consistent this season. Sitting with a 37-12-4-2 record, Melfort has stayed hot since opening the season 8-0-0-0. They’ve stayed right near the top of the SJHL Standings and with 3 games remaining, could push Battlefords for the number 2 overall record in the SJHL.

Dates for the series are yet to be determined. The series will start following the completion of the Wild Card Series which ends on March 14th. The Broncos and Mustangs will open their best of 7 series in Melfort on the weekend of March 16th and 17th. Official dates and times will be released once they’re available.
