The Melfort Mustangs continue their longest home stand of the season tonight as they welcome the Notre Dame Hounds to the Northern Lights Palace. It’s the fourth and final meeting of the season, and second in Melfort. Following tonight, the Mustangs wrap up their 5 game home stand tomorrow, with the visiting Weyburn Red Wings. Both games have 7:30pm puck drops this weekend.
The Hounds and Mustangs have met 3 previous times this season with Melfort winning all 3 matchups. It’s been a while though, as all of the head to head games came back in September when both teams had much different looking lineups.
One familiar change for the Hounds is the addition of forward Brady Clayton. Clayton was traded to the Hounds from the Mustangs earlier this season and will now play his first game against his former team. Since joining the Hounds Clayton has scored 1 goal in 12 games. The former Midget AAA Lloydminster Bobcat suited up for 20 games with the Mustangs before being moved south.
For the Mustangs they’ve had quite a few changes since the first meetings of the season in September. Some of the new faces up front include Kyle Bosch, Tian Rask and Austin Nault. Melfort acquired the three 20-year old forwards at different times of the season and all will all play their first games against the Hounds as Mustangs. Between the pipes Shawn Parkinson and Tanner Martin have been great. Parkinson has gotten the bulk of the work lately and sits as one of the hottest goalies in the SJHL. Parkinson is 3-0-1 in his last 4 games, with a .935 save percentage and a 1.62 goals against average.
