Sanford Commits to Mustangs for 2022/2023

The Melfort Mustangs are excited to announce that 2004-born forward Kyle Sanford has committed to the Mustangs for the 2022/2023 season.

Sanford, a Kamloops, B.C. product, played this past season with the Kamloops Storm of the KIJHL in B.C.’s Junior B circuit. In 41 games, Sanford scored seven goals and added 19 assists for 26 points. His 26 points were good for third on the team. The 6’1”, 175lbs forward also added four goals and three assists for seven points in 13 playoff games. Sanford was tied for the team lead in goals during the post-season, and was third in points.

“Kyle is a responsible 200-foot player with a high hockey IQ, and a high compete level,” said Mustangs Head Coach and General Manager Trevor Blevins. “He finds the right areas on the ice to put himself and his teammates in positions to score.”

Sanford also joined the Merritt Centennials of the BCHL for four games this season, but was held off the scoresheet.

During the COVID-shortened season, Sanford played four games with the Delta Hockey Academy’s U18 Prep team. He also played three games with that Prep team in 2019/2020 as a call-up and had two points over three games.
