Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League

First trip to La Ronge!

The Melfort Mustangs will wrap up the September portion of the schedule tonight with a date with the La Ronge Ice Wolves. For Melfort it marks the 6th straight game away from the Northern Lights Palace.

The Melfort Mustangs wrapped up the showcase with a pretty little bow on Tuesday beating the Notre Dame Hounds 6-3. That, following a 5-3 win over Kindersley on Sunday the Mustangs swept their showcase games and now sit 3-2-1-0 on the season. Big winners of the showcase were new comers Kenzie Arnold(1-3-4pts) and Dryden Michaud(2-0-2pts) who combined for 6 points in just two games. Some much needed scoring on the second line. Scoring 11 goals in 2 games shows well for the Mustangs as other players like defenceman Kayle Tosh put up 4 assists, along with fellow defenceman Jake Hobson who scored once and added 2 assists. Justin Ball scored once with 3 assists and Carson Albrecht scored 3 goals and added an assist. With Tanner Zentner chiping in with 1 goal and 2 assists the Mustangs top line of Zentner, Ball and Albrecht combined for 5 goals and 6 assists in just two games. Proving their one of the top lines in the league. Between the pipes Hunter Arps played all 120 minutes for the Mustangs making 67 saves on 73 shots for a .917 save percentage.

The La Ronge Ice Wolves are off to a tough start once again this season. With a 0-4-0-0 record on the year the Ice Wolves have a -17 goal differential already and sport a goals against average per game of 7.25. Heading back home should mean signs of success for the Ice Wolves as they were one of the tough challenges on the road for Melfort last season. Putting up a fight in each showing.

Tonight’s game is 1 of 3 in a row the Mustangs will play against the Ice Wolves. Following tonight, the teams meet next weekend, Friday in Melfort and Saturday back in La Ronge. Tonight’s game begins at 7:30pm and Mat Barrett will have the call at 7:15pm on CK750.

Don’t forget this Sunday is the Mustang Fall Supper. 5pm it starts at the Kerry Vickar Centre and it’s one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the Mustangs! Come have a home cooked meal and support your local Junior A Team! The players will be there to serve, cleanup and greet all fans! See you Sunday!
