Mustangs acquire Hammond and Tuba from BCHL clubs

The Melfort Mustangs have acquired 2001-born forward Curtis Hammond from the Coquitlam Express and 2002-born defenceman Hayden Tuba from the Powell River Kings. The Mustangs are sending Player Development Fee’s to the Express and Kings.

Hammond, originally from Fort St. John, B.C. has played the past two seasons in the AJHL. He spent the 2019/2020 season with the Bonnyville Pontiacs where he scored four goals and added 11 assists for 15 points in 36 games. In 2020/2021, Hammond played for the Grand Prairie Storm and had a goal and an assist in 11 games.

“Curtis is a player that has been on our radar.” said Mustangs Head Coach and General Manager Trevor Blevins. He brings excellent speed to our forward group. Curtis can play in all situations and he will be expected to step in and play a big role in our offence.”

Tuba, listed at 6’2” and 185lbs, played the 2020/2021 season with the Surrey Eagles, playing in 13 games. He tallied two assists and added 10 penalty minutes. Between 2018 and 2020, the Steveston, B.C. product also played as an affiliate with the Coquitlam Express, notching one assist in 5 total games.

“Hayden will be a great addition to our defence,” Blevins said. “He brings size, strength, compete, and skill. We are excited to see what he can do as a Mustang.”

The Mustangs welcome Curtis and Hayden to Melfort! Fall Camp begins on Sept. 3, and the Home Opener is Sept. 24.
