Mustangs, Blevins agree to three-year extension

The Melfort Mustangs have agreed to an extension with their Head Coach and General Manager Trevor Blevins.

The extension is a three-year deal and will keep Blevins with the club through the 2024-2025 SJHL season. He had one year remaining on his current deal.

“It’s an honour to accept a renewal of my contract with the Mustangs,” Blevins said. “It is a privilege to coach these young men and guide them towards success on and off the ice. I am committed to the development of each individual, and together we will improve on all skills and develop a competitive atmosphere. I want to thank the Board of Directors, and all Mustang fans for their past and continued support. I am excited to continue to work with our hockey staff as they have been a huge reason for the success of the program.”

Blevins, a Melfort product, joined the club as an Assistant Coach in the 2000’s before moving on to be the Head Coach of the Tisdale Trojans. Blevins would get the call as Head Coach of the Mustangs in the 2013-2014 season where he ultimately led the club to a Sherwood Division title. Since then, Blevins has won two SJHL Championships in 2015 and 2016, made the finals an additional time, has never missed the playoffs, and is the Mustangs all-time coaching wins leader with more than 220 wins.

“As an organization, this is a pretty easy decision when you have a person in your own community that has the skill and drive he does, and it shows in the team he always has under him,” said Mustangs President Chad Elliott. “Pushing and growing these young men so they reach their top potential. Which usually turns into SJHL finals, and an extension of their hockey careers. We are excited to bring Trevor back for three more seasons.”

Blevins also played over 200 regular season and playoff games for the Mustangs between 1993 and 1996.
