Mustangs add veteran defender from Millionaires

The Melfort Mustangs have acquired 2003-born defenceman Chase Friedt Mohr, and a 5th Round Draft Pick in 2025 from the Melville Millionaires in exchange for 2006-born defenceman Cohen Swan, 2006-born forward Evhan Allan, a 1st Round Draft Pick in 2024, a 3rd Round Draft Pick in 2025, and a Player Development Fee (PDF).

“Chase’s experience, along with his high level of play, will certainly make an impact in our lineup this season,” said Mustangs Head Coach and General Manager Trevor Blevins. “His contribution to our leadership group will be a valuable asset to our dressing room. We expect Chase to be an elite defender in the SJHL.”

Friedt-Mohr (6’/192lbs), out of Prince Albert, Sask., has played parts of the last four season in the WHL, as well as the SJHL. The veteran defender has played a grand total of 125 regular season WHL games split between Spokane, Edmonton, and Tri-City, scoring eight goals and adding 13 assists for 21 points. He’s also contributed one assist in six playoff games, all for Tri-City in 22/23. This past season for the Americans, Friedt-Mohr had nine points in 67 games.

During the 2021/2022 season, Friedt-Mohr played 20 games for the Kindersley Klippers, scoring one goal and adding five assists before heading back to the WHL. Prior to his time in the WHL and SJHL, Friedt-Mohr played two full seasons with the Prince Albert Mintos U18 AAA club, where he was named Captain in the 2019/2020 season.

Swan (6’2”/170lbs), out of Saskatoon, Sask., is a former second round draft pick of the Mustangs in 2022. The 22/23 season saw Swan play 43 games for the Saskatoon Contacts, scoring twice and adding 10 assists for 12 points. He added two assists in nine playoff games for the Contacts.

Allan (6’2”/174lbs), from Davidson, Sask., is also a former Mustangs draft pick, but in the fourth round of 2022. He spent this past season with the Estevan Bears U18 AAA organization, scoring seven goals and adding three assists in 36 games. Allan is also a fourth round pick of the Prince Albert Raiders in the WHL Draft.
