Mustangs head to Estevan for first meeting with the Bruins

The Melfort Mustangs head South to Estevan tonight for the first of 4 meetings on the season with the Bruins. Tonight’s game is a battle of the top two teams in the SJHL. Melfort(8-0-0-0) sit first in the SJHL and 2nd nationally in Canada. Estevan(6-2-1-0) is 2nd in the SJHL.

What to Watch For:

The Estevan Bruins boast one of the top scoring lines in the SJHL early this season. Led by current SJHL scoring leader Zach Goberis. On the year Goberis has 10 goals and 12 assists in just 9 games. Alongside Goberis is winger Michael McChesney who has scored 11 goals and added 7 assists. Between the two of them they’ve combined for 40 points in just 9 games. By far the highest among teammates this season.

It’s not a surprise that on the other side of the who to watch for, is Mustang goaltender Evan Plotnik. So far Plotnik has played every second of the mustang season between the pipes. He’s been outstanding posting an 8-0-0-0 record with a 1.73 GAA and a .935 save percentage. If he does get the start tonight it should be the toughest match up the Bruins have faced so far this season, and the stiffest test for the Mustang D as well.

Details:

Game time tonight is 7:30pm from Estevan. There is no radio broadcast. Following tonight’s game the Mustangs are in Weyburn tomorrow to meet the Red Wings.
