The Melfort Mustangs welcome the Nipawin Hawks to the Northern Lights Palace for what will be the 5th meeting of the season between the teams. The Mustangs have had the upper hand in the season series winning all 4 games against their Sher-Wood rivals. Tonight sets up to be a great game, and a fun atmosphere at the Palace. Not only is it Parent/Billet weekend for the Mustangs but the team will be auctioning off 7 Mustang third jerseys tonight. To wrap things up tomorrow will be a home date against Weyburn, as well as the Mustang Player/Alumni shootout following the game. It’s a big hockey weekend in Melfort!!
For the Mustangs, they’ve been cruising right along through the month of November going 7-2-1-0 during that stretch. Tough losses to Flin Flon, Melville and Yorkton could have made for an extremely good November for the team. But big wins over Nipawin and Estevan kept the Mustangs consistently at the top of the SJHL Standings.
The Nipawin Hawks have been just as good as Melfort this season and have seemed to beat everyone they play, except the Mustangs. Tonight they get an opportunity to pick up their first win of the season against Melfort. Over the month of November the Hawks also went 7-2-1-0, however they’ve won 6 straight coming into tonight and have scored 19 goals in their last two games against La Ronge and Weyburn.

Tonight’s game opens parent/billet weekend for the Melfort Mustangs. At the first intermission the team will have a live auction to auction off Kayle Tosh and Ashton Oakes third jerseys. In the second intermission will be Joshua Dobberthien and Tanner Zentner. Following the game the team will do Justin Ball’s, Eric McNeilly and Colin Schmidt’s jerseys! After the auction will be an after party with food and cocktails at the Melfort Royal Canadian legion for Parents, Billets, Players and Fans! Tomorrow night the team is hosting bowling for the parents and billets from 3:30pm – 4:30pm, a pot luck at the legion from 4:30pm – 7PM, and following the game will be the Mustang Player and Alumni Shootout.
