Mustangs host Ice Wolves for first time

The Melfort Mustangs are back on home ice for the first time in 6 games as they welcome the La Ronge Ice Wolves tonight. Melfort last played at the Northern Lights Palace on Sept 15th.

The Mustangs have been riding high recently with 3 straight wins over different clubs. Coming off wins over La Ronge, Notre Dame and Kindersley the Mustangs sit with a 4-2-1-0 record on the season, currently in a tie for 6th place in the SJHL. Offensively the Mustangs have been led by Carson Albrecht who has 7 points over the 3 game win streak. Justin Ball has picked up 6 points, and newest Mustang Kenzie Arnold also has 6 points in that time.

For La Ronge they won their first game of the season beating Melville at home on Sunday 3-1. The Ice Wolves now sit with a 1-5-0-0 record on the season and occupy the basement in the SJHL. Offensively they’ve been led by Mitch Zambon. His 4 goals are tied for, and 5 assists are the most by anyone on the team. The back end seems to be where La Ronge has struggled, allowing 37 goals in just 6 games is a very high average per game. Goaltenders Jordan Frey and Chad Duran have done their share between the pipes, but don’t have very good statistics because of it.

Following tonight the two teams meet for the rematch in La Ronge tomorrow. The Ice Wolves have not beaten the Mustangs since December 9th 2015 in Melfort. A stretch of almost 3 full calendar years.
