Mustangs knock off Ice Wolves, remain undefeated.

The Melfort Mustangs remain unbeaten in the 2017-18 SJHL regular season thanks to a 3-1 victory on the road in La Ronge last night. Great special teams and solid defense lead the way as the Mustangs sit with a 3-0-0-0 record on the year.

The La Ronge Ice Wolves started the scoring early last night as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead 1:25 into the contest. Jason Bednarski scored his second of the season with assists going to Bryce Fiske and Derek Frater. The Mustangs would answer back as Justin Ball would get his second of the season to knot the game 1-1. Carson Albrecht and Tanner Zentner picked up the assists on the goal.

Heading into the second, the Mustangs would start to grab some momentum as Tanner Zentner would score his 3rd of the season on the power play, assists to Loch Morrison and Kayle Tosh.  before the end of the period Melfort would go up 3-1 as Jaxon Joseph would score his 2nd of the season, from Kalem Zary and Colin Schmidt.

In the third, the Mustangs would shut it down defensively and take a 3-1 victory back to Melfort. In net, Evan Plotnik made 25 saves on 26 shots for his third win of the season. For La Ronge, Luke Lush would get the loss,  making 35 saves on 38 shots.

For the Mustangs they get a day off before heading to Humboldt tomorrow. The Mustangs meet the Broncos for the first time this season. Game time is 7:30pm from Humboldt!
