Mustangs to meet Broncos for first time

The Melfort Mustangs will head to Humboldt tonight for their first meeting with the Humboldt Broncos this season. After defeating the Broncos twice in meaningless pre-season games both teams are off to great regular season starts. Both Humboldt and Melfort have started the season with 3 straight wins and sit atop their divisions in the SJHL.

After back to back wins over Nipawin followed by a road win in La Ronge the Melfort Mustangs have came out of the gate hot. They boast the best special teams in the SJHL through 3 games as the Mustang Penalty Kill has been perfect, killing off all 17 opposition power play chances. At the same time Melfort has had the best Powerplay in the SJHL scoring 7 times in just 16 opportunities. They come into tonight’s game with two players on goal scoring streaks. Tanner Zentner has scored in 3 straight games while Justin Ball has scored in each of his last 2.

The Humboldt Broncos are also off to a perfect start in the SJHL Regular Season. After wins over Notre Dame followed by a road win in Kindersley the Broncos find themselves 3-0-0-0 and atop the Olympic Buildings Division. Despite the powerplay starting 1/19, the Broncos managed to pull off three 1 goal victories. Humboldt’s PK has been good allowing just 1 goal on 11 powerplay chances.
