Mustangs return home for Wednesday night meeting with Millionaires

T

he Melfort Mustangs are back on home ice this evening as they welcome the Melville Millionaires to the Northern Lights Palace. Tonight is the final meeting between the Millionaires and Mustangs this season. Melfort has won 2 of the first 3.

The Mustangs come into tonight’s game following a solid road performance over the Notre Dame Hounds on Saturday. The Mustangs opened the scoring early and kept that lead throughout defeating the Hounds 5-2. It was a big win for Melfort following back to back losses to the Battlefords North Stars and Humboldt Broncos. It also widened the gap just a little further between themselves and the Hounds in the SJHL Standings. With 15 games remaining the Mustangs sit 6 points up on Humboldt and 9 points up on Notre Dame for 4th place.

The Melville Millionaires are looking to solidify themselves in the SJHL playoffs as well. Right now they sit 10 points up on Yorkton for that final playoff spot. They’re riding a 2 game win streak into tonight thanks to victories over Weyburn and Flin Flon. If the season were to end right now the Millionaires would meet the Weyburn Red Wings in the best of 3 Survivor Series to start the post season.
