Stangs Tie Wild Card Series at 1 game each

THIRD PERIOD RALLY EVENS WILD CARD SERIES

Justin Ball scored twice and added one assist and the Melfort Mustangs netted three third period goals as they came from behind to beat the Notre Dame Hounds 2-1, evening up their Best-of-Five Wild Card Series at 1-1.

The Hounds led 2-1 after forty minutes, thanks to a first period goal from Kaleb Dahlgren and a late second period powerplay marker courtesy of Chaz Smedsrud.

Ball sandwiched a short-handed marker between the two Hounds goals, and Carson Albrecht tied the game :45 into the third.  Dakota Boutin (1g-1a) scored the winner with 6:38 remaining, before Ball’s empty-netter ended the scoring.

Evan Plotnik made 27/29 saves in the win while Notre Dame’s Benjamin Patt stopped 23/26 shots.

The series goes back to Notre Dame for Game 3 on Monday.

The other Wild Card match sees Weyburn take a 2-0 series lead on the road to Kindersley in Sunday night’s Game 3.
