Mustangs look to stay hot as they head to La Ronge

The Melfort Mustangs(19-5-4-1) are off to La Ronge this afternoon for a meeting with the La Ronge Ice Wolves(6-19-0-2). Tonight’s game begins at 7:30pm and it’s the 4th of 6 meetings between the teams this season.

For the Mustangs they’ve controlled the season series winning all 3 previous meetings by scores of 3-1, 6-0 and 4-1. Limiting the Ice Wolves to just 2 goals in those games has been key. Tonight is the 2nd time the Mustangs travel to La Ronge this season. The first time it was La Ronge who jumped out to the early 1-0 lead just 1:25 into the game. Melfort would settle down and score 3 unanswered to get the win. Plotnik would make 25 saves on 26 shots for the win.

Melfort has points in 4 straight games and is 8-1-2-0 in their last 11 contests. The Mustangs will need a win tonight if they want to continue to pace the Nipawin Hawks for first place in the Sher-Wood Division. La Ronge will be looking for their 2nd straight win as they look to hunt down Melville for the final wild card playoff spot. They currently sit 8 points back of 10th place.
